Motion to the Scottish Parliament
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart has welcomed the allocation of £58,345 from the Big Lottery Fund to a Dunblane group in order to provide an employability programme for struggling children.
The Coach My Sport CIC, based in Dunblane, currently runs programmes aimed at enhancing motor development skills for children aged between three and nine.
It is understood that the group will use the funding to widen the access work that they do in order to establish an employability programme for young people who are disengaged from school, or who are not in education.
The new project aims to equip these individuals with transferable soft skills and practical sports coaching skills which will then enable them to seek employment or move into further education.
It is hoped that the scheme will benefit 168 youngsters across the Forth Valley area.
Mr Lockhart has also submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament welcoming the funding.
Dean Lockhart MSP said:
‘’This is excellent news for an organisation which has already made such a difference to children across the Forth Valley region.
‘’The widening of access to group’s activities to include an employability programme will have a huge impact on the local community.
‘’The numbers of young people who find themselves disengaged with education from a very young age often end up the furthest from the workplace going into adulthood.
‘’It is crucial for the future sustainability of the Scottish economy that these young people are picked up as soon as possible and shown a career path.
‘’I have submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament, which has already gathered support from MSP colleagues, welcoming this funding announcement – and I look forward to hearing about the benefit this will bring to those young people across the Forth Valley.’’
